Collaborative learning is a form of learning that requires a group of individuals with the same motive of learning a particular subject and solving problems associated with the subject including expansion of knowledge. It is a group of cooperative learners working together as a group to work on a project, review, analyze, share opinion and discoveries. Collaborative learning is more effective when there is proper cooperation individuals support and work together to succeed. Cooperative learning has now become a widespread form of active education used in educational institutions. Educational progression is now in a social stage that employs the generally conversations which utilizes social interactions as well as the collaborative constructions.

How  to integrate community-oriented learning into a learning environment

Learning environment may include both the instructors, students and presenters. The instructors, mentors and advisors guide learners through their courses, answering questions and solving related concerns students may have during their course of study to ensure successful completion of courses of studies. Virtual classroom, the topmost method used to integrate community-oriented learning into the learning environment which also is through group discussions, and most cases made mandatory for learners and participants. Through this medium, learners and participants from different locations and backgrounds collaborates just as if they are in the physical environment, and having the feelings that they are physically connected through resource sharing, questions and answers, chats and group discussions all over the world through the virtual classroom.

Factors that can affect collaborative learning

Disagreement, not always coming into terms with each other to have things done.

Lack of participation, not playing one’s part or contributing one’s role to effect the purpose of the gathering can affect collaboration.

Lack of respect for each other in an individual or general group

Courteousness, our tone and the way we approach others is very important.

Unfriendly attitude, some people have an attitude that is not encouraging at all, they will not support and would not allow those who want to participate to so due to their behavioral attitude which may scare people away.

Excessive playfulness at a wrong time, when there is a gathering, some people forget their purpose of gathering

  1. We are use to of “Study Circle” it is the same as you described the Collaborative Learning.

  2. My kids used to do this when they are still studying. It is the best avenue for slow learners to clarify and ask questions.

  3. I’ve always found collaboration learning or group learning very helpful and often encouraged my kids to learn in groups.

    Collaborative learning is important but I agree that the attitudes of those in the group might prevent learning by all.

  9. Definitely agree, collaborative learning is great to use. I used this back in college and it was effective to me. That is why working right now with people is not difficult for me.
