Differences between Extrinsic and Intrinsic motivation

Intrinsic motivation is an inspiration that comes from personal enthusiasm, arouses from one’s desire or excitement enjoyed. Extrinsic motivation is a push that makes us execute, conduct or involve in an activity to earn a reward or to avert punishment, it does not necessarily mean that one is enjoying it, but find it pleasing because you will be receiving a reward in return or avoid something unlikable.

Differences

In intrinsic motivation, you don’t feel over-labored and pushed by someone or an external factor to do so. It’s a push that comes from the inside of an individual to get something done. While on the other hand,

Extrinsic motivation involves doing something out of self-will that is, you are not willing but being pushed to do it, to earn reward, compensation or avoid being punished.

What motivates me to learn as an intrinsic learner

I don’t like been left out when it comes to learning. I want to learn to match up anywhere I find myself.  I am an intrinsically motivated learner, desire to learn and acquire more knowledge is what I always wished for, as soon as the opportunity comes, I quickly grab it coupled with the fact that I’m an adult and don’t need to be pushed, I own the privilege knowing what I want for myself and work on motivating myself when it comes to learning. Being motivated from within me, always yield a long-lasting and better result than when being pushed to do it by someone or external factor I may give up along the way; essentially, the result yielded may not be long-lasting with extrinsic motivation. The high achieving learner, is a  student that has the higher mindset of intrinsic motivation to learn with higher degrees of independence and proficiency than low accomplishing learners. The intrinsic learner is more motivated by the need to broaden understanding and the necessity to have accomplishment feeling.

  1. Intrinsic motivation is always more sustainable and effective, in my opinion. You have more success when you want to do something rather than when someone wants you to do something.

    1. Absolutely, intrinsic motivation comes from the inside, and one is not been pushed or forced to it to avoid punishment or to earn reward.

    1. It’s not easy, but trying to know their personality would help, words of encouragement does help a lot including supports, however, there are some that really need a push, even we as adult need a push to do some things sometimes if not most of the time.
